GRASS FIRE ON GOLF LINKS

EXCITEMENT AT BULLS FIREFIGHTERS’ EFFORTS SAVE DWELLING AND PAVILION (Own Correspondent). BULLS, Feb. 18. The lire danger while the whole countryside is parched and dry was exemplified on Friday morning, when an outbreak occurred at the Rangitikei Golf Club’s links, on Parewanui Road. In a few minutes the conflagration, fanned by a strong wind, had spread over a wide area, and it was fortunate that a number of young men were quickly gathered together, for it took all their efforts to save a dwelling and a pavilion on the property, the task of beating the ground with wet sacks occupying over three hours. Several lady members of the club also helped, and afterwards the firefighters were regaled with very welcome refreshments.
