FAREWELLED AT WAVERLEY
DISTRICT PLUNKET NURSE. (Own Corespondent). WAVERLEY, Feb. 18. St. Andrew's Sunday School Hall was a gay scene on Friday afternoon, when over 50 mothers and then children met to farewell Miss G. Tompkins, who has been the district Plunket nurse for the past four years. The hall was beautifully decorated with masses of choice gladioli, by Mrs. C. Tarrant. Mrs. Clark, the Plunket mother with the largest family, presented Miss Tompkins with a dainty shoulder spray made by Mrs. D. Fowler. Songs by Mrs. P. V. Graves and Mrs. J. Stewart accompanied by Miss N. Mathieson, were much appreciated, as was also a recitation by little Gabrielle Morrison. A dainty afternoon tea was provided for the adults while a most appropriate Plunket tea of apples, dates and raisins was enjoyed by the little ones. The president. Mrs. J. J. Johnston, presented Miss Tompkins with a very nice toilet set and said she had always been a most approachable and deeply conscientious nurse and would be greatly missed in the district. In thanking the mothers for their present, Miss Tompkins said she had always found Waverley most Plunketminded. She greatly appreciated their kindness and help in her work. The afternoon was concluded by the singing of “For She's a Jolly Good Fellow," and “Auld Lang Syne." Before leaving on a tour of Australia, Singapore and Penang, Miss Tompkins will be taking a refresher course at the New Plymouth Public -lospital.
