PATEA HOSPITAL
PATIENTS APPRECIATIVE MEETING OF THE BOARD (Own Correspondent). PATEA, Feb. 14. “It is pleasing to learn that patients appreciate the services and attention they receive in the institution,” said the chairman, Mr. C. R. Honeyfield, at a meeting of the Patea Hospital Board to-day, when a letter of gratification and appreciation was received from an expatient. Advice was received from the Palea Borough Council that it would not consider the sale to the board of land adjacent to the hospital, as it was being held for housing purposes. In view of the undesirability of close because of its potential value to trie settlement near me institution anu board for extension, it was decided to ask the council to reconsider its decision. A deputation, consisting of the chairman, medical superintendent, the secretary, and Mr. A. J. Gibbs, was appointed to interview the council on the matter. The medical superintendent, Dr. W. T. Simmons, reported that there were 22 patients in hospital at the beginning of January. Forty were admitted during the month, and 34 discharged, leaving 28 remaining in hospital at the end of the month. The acting-matron. Miss D. Drayton, reported that the matron, Miss Harris, commenced her annual leave at the beginning of the month. Nurse Christie began ner leave on February 2. Staff Nurses Fitzgerald and Iwakau, Nurse Wilton, and Miss N. Vincent, hospital aid, have resigned. Those present at the meeting were Mr. C. li. Honeyfield (chairman), Mrs. A. A. Carey, Messrs. W. H. Watkins, C. Campbell, A. J. Gibbs, R. J. Watt, H. Middleton, J. Lupton, and the secretary, Mr. W. T. Sheild.
