GOODWILL TRIP

CANCELLED BY ITALY. HOSTILE RECEPTIONS TO WARSHIPS. NEW YORK, Feb. 10. Dispatches from Central America state that the visiting Italian warships have been recalled to Italy, cancelling the so-called good-will trip, because of a repetition of the incidents at Panama when they called at Buenos Aires and Ecuador, and fear of a continuation of the demonstrations at other South American ports. A cablegram received from Panama on February 6 stated: The crews ol two Italian cruisers which arrived on a good-will cruise were met by angry crowds, and Admiral Somigli’s car was pelted with rotten egzs as he drove to meet the President. Police reserves were called out. Feeling is high owing to the editorials bySignor Virninio Gayda stating that the defence frontiers of Italy and Germany may be extended to the Panama Canal.
