WANGANUI CENTRE RECORDS BROKEN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 Several records were lowered at the second night of the Wanganui Swimming (Centre’s championships at the Wanganui East Baths on Saturday night. Showers of rain before the carnival and about half-way through the programme were responsible for a poor attendance of the public. An unsatisfactory feature of the evening was the number of events In which there wore either one or two competitors. In some of these events entries were received but the entrants did not compete. The following were the results:— 100 Yards Junior Boys (title-holder, H. Davis; record, N. Dowsett, 69sec.). —FI. Davis (Gonville) 1. Time, 68 1-5 sec. Although he swam on his own Davis put up a bright display to lower the record by 4-ssec. 50 Yards Ladies (title-holder, P. Watts; record, P. Watts 30 2-ssec). — 1 P. Nixon (Central) 1. The ony- , starter. Time, 31 3-ssec. 100 Yards Intermediate Boys (titleholder, I. Mitchell; record, N. Dowsett 61sec.).—A. Wilkes (Wanganui East) I, G. Walton (Gonville) 2, T. Rowe (Gonville) 3. Time, 67sec. Wilkes won by a touch in an exciting finish. 100 Yards Men’s Championship (title-holder, I. Mitchell; record, N. Dowsett, 60 2-ssec.).—A. Reeve (Central) 1. The only starter.
