STANLEY McKAY’S NEW “GAIETIES”

Mr. Stanley McKay, whose company’s annual visits to New Zealand are eagerly looked forward to, is to present his new “Gaieties” Vaudeville Revue Company at the Opera House, Wanganui, for a short season of three nights and a matinee, commencing on Wednesday, February 15. The new show, which arrived in the Dominion at Christmas time, has already made a big impression on Christchurch audiences at St. James’ Theatre, being regarded as the best and most versatile combination of variety artists Mr. McKay has yet organised. The comedy, always a strong point in the “Gaieties” revues, is in the capable hands of Stan Foley, who has just completed a two years’ starring engagement at the Thealie Royal, Brisbane, and Alec McKinnon, the talented little Scotch comedian from Glasgow. Singing is featured by Stella Collier, soprano, and Barry Ross, baritone, who appear in delightful song scenes, assisted by the beauty ballet. The specialities are many and varied, with Geo. Hurd, the international Royal command juggling star, heading the list. Mr. Hurd has had the honour of appearing before the late King George, Queen Mary, and the present King and Queen al Windsor Castle, and the Alhambra, London. Others of outstanding merit are Scotty and Dolly, Australia's' premier dancing duo, Nellie Kolle, famous male impersonator; Stella Lamond, the personality girl; San Remos Bros., remarkable hand-bal-ancers; Assam, Pekoe, Souchen and Congo, acrobatic clowns; Max Reddy, light comedian; Dolly Donoghue, solo dancer, and Snowy Towers, clever mimic of screen stars. In addition to the principals there are the pretty girls of the “Gaieties” ballet, {May Brooke’s orchestra, beautiful dressing, elaborate scenery, and the latest in lighting. The only matinee is to be given on Friday afternoon at 3.15. Seats may be reserved without charge at Dobbs Bros’.
