W.D.F.U. GROWTH OF ORGANISATION CENTENNIAL HOSTESS Mrs. J. C. Wickham (Wanganui), Dominion president of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, who is on a tour of the north in the interests of the W.D.F.U., attended the ; interprovincial conference of the South Auckland branches held last week at Hamilton. The questions re the nomination for I president in 1939, and of a social hostiess at the Centennial Exhibition were I discussed. I It was pointed out that these posiI tions should be undertaken by a wo- ' man who personified the typical woman on the land of New Zealand, as in the forthcoming celebrations she would be very much in the public eye. A great amount of time and thought would have to be expended by the woman appointed, and the meeting gratefully acknowledged Mrs. Wickham's intimation of willingness to undertake the work. | Mrs. Wickham addressed the gathering and spoke of the growth of the ,Women’s Division, the organisation ! now possessing 500 branches and 22,- ■ 000 members. Reference was made to the new rest house, “Kaiangamoi,” i formerly the Girls’ Flock House, near ! Palmerston North, recently acquired Iby the Women’s Division. This home, | which is now open to receive guests, iis primarily for country women requiring a rest in congenial surroundings, and is not being run as a moneymaking concern. It will be opened on February 18. it is hoped, by Lady Galway. She also referred to the benefit derived by the girls attending the three-weexs’ course at Massey College and the interest taken in Mrs Noel Adams’ essay competition for girls. -She thanked the Farmers’ Unior for the help it had given to the WoI men’s Division in the past.
