TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
FIRST MEETING FOR YEAR MEMBERS’ DAY The Savage Club Hall presented a gay appearance yesterday afternoon, when the first meeting for the year of the Townswomen’s Guild was held. The stage was attractively decked with bowls of ctahlias and on the gay tablecloths were vases of similar flowers in all shades. The members were welcomed by Mrs. J. G. Denniston, who opened the meeting and dealt with the business portion. In referring to the successful garden party held on Saturday, she thanked all who had come along; also those who had assisted in any way towards the success of the party. It was proposed that an invitation be sent to the wives of the Fire Brigade delegates to Wanganui who would be visiting the city next month, to attend the next guild meeting, would entertain them. It was mentioned that the secretary, Mrs. Amies, was leaving the district. An invitation was received from the Aramoho Women’s Institute to attend the birthday, and the three appointed to attend were Mesdames Mackay, Archibald and Mayo. As it was “members’ day,” the meeting was then handed over to Mrs. L. Bailey and Mrs. Jones, who presided over the gathering. A short programme was given, including elocutionary items by Miss Alice Rogers, piano solos by Miss Fennell, and songs by Mrs. Senior Partridge. The meeting closed in the usual way, followed by the serving of afternoon tea. The result of the competitions were: Cake, James Albert; box of chocolates, Mrs. Raine.
