RAILWAY CRICKET

MARTON JUNCTION v. WANGANUI (Own Correspondent) MARTON, Feb. 6. In very warm weather, Junction Railway received Wanganui Railway as their visitors to the Prirvccss Street ground on Sunday. Marton went in to bat and it was not long before the first wicket fell and, at two wickets down for 10 runs, it appeared as if the visitors were going to dispose of the Junction very quickly. A stand by Wilson, however, seemed to encourage the home side and four wickets fell for 40, Shotter adding a nice innings of 16. Doherty played carefully, however, and runs came slowly. The bowling of McDougall became aggressive and Junction were disposed of at the luncheon adjournment. After lunch, in what was now a fairly hot field, Wanganui commenced their innings somewhat disastrously, Spooner being quickly sent back to the pavilion, McDougall following soon afterwards. The quick scoring of Rose and Boesley soon changed matters for Wanganui. These two players succeeded in adding 53 runs before they were disposed of. The remainder were not long in being dismissed and the innings closed with the total of 93. After a very nice afternoon tea had been served by the ladies, a vote of thanks and appreciation was expressed by Mr. Spooner, on behalf of the visitors, and Mr. Wilson, captain of the home team, replied.
