VALEDICTORY. There was a large gathering of business men and farmers ’on Saturday night at the Jockey Club’s rooms to bid farewell to Air B. Cochran, who has resigned from the managership of the Alarton branch of the N.Z. Co-op. Distributing Co. to take over the management of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co. at Timaru. Air A. Stuart occupied the chair. In responding to the toast of the N.Z. Co-op. Distributing Co., Air G. L. Afarshall paid a high tribute to Air Cochran’s ability as a manager as one who possessed every qualification to fill the position. , “The Alanawatu Auctioneers” was proposed by Mr H. Y. Lethbridge, and responded to by Messrs C. Day ajid AV. C. Fowler. Mr A. Stuart proposed tlje health of “The Guest,” and spoke of the sterling worth of Air Cochran as manager of their company and as a citizen. In wishing him every success in his new sphere, the chairman presented Mi Cochran with a handsome travelling bag, and his health was drunk with musical honours. Alessrs P. J. Sladden, A. J. B. Sicely. A. S. Coleman (A. and P. Association), and A. Way voiced their appreciation of Air Cochran’s services during nis stay of eight years in Alarton. Air Cochran feelingly responded ano gave an interesting sketch of his first visit to Alarton, the growth of the firm, and expressed his conviction that although Alarton would not be one of the big cities of the Dominion he was sure that Rangitikei would always occupy a prominent place on the map, on account of its splendid productive capabilities, and as an educational centre. The mere fact of two prominent schools—Huntley School and Nga Tawa School—being located there would always add to the prestige of Alarton. Hp 'hanked them for the good things that bad been said about him and extended a hearty welcome to all his friends when he had settled down in Timaru. Applause). Air F. Sisson and Air J. Bowen wore associated with the toast of “The Ladies,’’ and with the toasting of the health of the chairman and convener (Mr A. Way). The proceedings terminated with the singing of the National Anthem and the giving of cheers for the guest. “INFATUATION.” Corinne Griffith was never more beautiful than in her latest screen triumph, “Infatuation.’’ No more gr?p--i ping story than “Caesor’s Wife” j (from which the picture is taken) ever j enjoyed success behind the footlight*, j The story comes tp Alarton this (Mon- | da>) evening.
