A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING.

j (Per Press Association). PALMERSTON N., November 3. Fair weather prevailed for the "Peoplo's Day" of the Manawatu A. and P. Show, and when the attendance was at its greatest it was estimated that between 23,000 and 24,000 people were present on the grounds. The takings brought the total for the- Show up to £2744 9s. 6d., an increase of £304 15s. 9d. on las year. The- greatest interest was evinced in the competitions. In all departments of the Show the public havo been well catered for. This year the members' grandstand accommodated six thousand people during the greater portion of the afternoon. The results of the competitions, all of which were run off with commendable "despatch, were as follows:—Pony Leaping : Tamati Potaka's Rata 1. Ladies Driving: Mrs. F. S. Mcßae 1, Miss A. G. Robertson 2. Ladies' Riding: Miss J Campbell 1, Miss L. C. Moore 2, and Misa Reynolds 3. Hunters Competition (26 competitors): W. D. Wation's Yeast 1, J. H. McNiven's Pickpocket 2, and Mr. Noake's Mignon 3. Military Event: Feilding Mounted Rifles 1, Manawatu Mounted Rifles 2, Alexandra Rifles (Wanganui) 3. The late judging results are as follows : Romney Marsh, champion ram, E. Short, of Waituna; ewe, G. Wheeler, Waituna West. Tho special prize for the most meritorious invention relating to agricultural machinery or implements was won b.* W. Breiv,. Christchurch, with an improved bearing for wheels. Tho championship in draught horses, siro or colt, resulted: —H. Campbell 1; maro or filly, F. Bremer; most points in draughts, F. Bremer, with 44 points. . Tho young fanners' competition resulted—G. A. Wheeler, Waituna, 1; D Duick, jun., Palmerston, 2; Norman Bryant, 3.
