LONDON, October 25. As the result of the opening of the new street, Kingsway, and the visit of the Parisian municipal delegates, Mr E. A. Cornwall, chairman of the London County Council has b&en knighted. In his annual statement, Sir E. A. Cornwall, chairman of the London County Council, showed that tihe debt of the London County Council now amounted to £44,620,266, including 11^ millions taken over from the late School Board, also 5£ millions in respect of remunerative purposes not involving any burden of rates. The annual municipal expenditure of London is 19^ millions, which is fourfold that of Denmark.
Sir Edward Clarke and Sir Robert Reid have given the opinion that the tmdo uuion rule with regard to the payment of members who sit in the House of Commons is a legal one. A test action is being prepared and will be gone on with, unless Mr Stuart Sim, Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, who ruled otherwise, reverses his recent d-eoieion.
