The Gazette contains the following notice re " The Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882 " .— " The following particulars relative to estimates, plans, and specifications to be submitted to tlie Minister for Public Works, under sections 9 and 10 of. "The Eoads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882," are published for general information: These shall include (1) General or key plan showing the route of road between wellknown termini, with the locality of proposed works marked thereon; or the site of works, may be indicated on the plan by reference to survey sections along any line of road ; scale, 1 mile to 1 inch. (2) Longitudinal section of ground and , road line formation, with grades marked on it and heights at change of grade '. from a datum fine ; also depths of cut- ;

tings and banks at every chain in rough ground, or at every 2 or 3 chains in ground of an even character. _ This sectiou to be in sheets each showing not more than 1 mile in length ; soale, 3 chains to 1 inch ; longitudinal, 30 feet to 1 inch vertical. (3) Cross sections not more than 2 chains apart of all parts of the ground where the transverse inolination of the same is more than 1 and 4, and grouudof the fatter character, to be described on the longitudinal section as " sideling ground," or " level," as the. case may be. Scale, 15 feet to 1 inch' natural. (4) Estimates for large culverts and bridges need not he given in detail but per lineal foot. The kind of bridge must be described as iron or wood-, truss or plain,' size of spans, as also the width of roadway- and its height-above the ordinary waterlevel, and above highest flood level. Full particulars of culverts ruust be given as to shape, width, [height, and {thickness, fand|the mat3rial of which it is proposed to build them. (51 Tracings on cloth of plans as above to be SBnt for approval. These will be kept iv the Public Works Department as a record. A specimen sheet of each such plans will, be furnished to any local body applying for them.
