ALLEGED LARCENY BY A BANK CLERK.

♦ (pee united peess association.) Wellington. Oct. 22. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a young man named Francis J. Hodgson, who was formerly a clerk in the National Bank. He is charged with stealing 500 sovereigns a little over a year ago. Hodgson was transferred to Christohurch, and after his departure it was found that his accounts had beeu tampered with, and that £500 had been taken from the reserve safe. It is stated that Hodgson used £200 of the sum to make good a deficiency, and that he took the balance to Christchurch. After arriving at Christchurch Hodgson was dismissed from the bank, and joined the Armed Constabulary, from which he wa3 recently discharged. On coming here Mr Black, the manager had an mii terview with Hodgson, who admitted taking the money, and gave information that he had planted a portion in St. John's churchyard, Christchurch. *Nx information being sent to Christchuroh, £250 was unearthed, and the bank, after delaying the matter, ultimately decided to prosecute, but the thing getting wind Hodgson has evaded the police.
