FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT AT AUCKLAND.
♦ (per united press association.) Auckland, Oct 22. A boat was struck by a squall this afternoon in the harbour while sailing. She went down instantly. A schooner •"■w rescued William Matthews, boat ■• Her. John Scott, plumber, and W. C ik, shoemaker, were drowned. Cook ■varf unable to swim ; the others could. Matthews had a narrow escape. The sheet was fastened round his leg, but the rope was long enough for hiai to get his head above water.
