« (per united press association.) '. AUCKLAND. October 21. i The Hon. J. Bryce, Native Minister, arrived by the Stella to-day. Dr. Goldsborough made a post mortem ' on the remains of the late Mrs Hedges ! alleged to have died from arsenical poisoning. The contents of the stomach were forwarded to the Government 1 Analyst. Additional evidence goes to ; show that the girl Hedges has been eccentric, subject to fainting fits, and claimed to see visions. She had run away from home several times. Mr , 801 l who lived with Hedges four months, states that Mrs Hedges informed him on one occasion that unless the child got better she would have to he put under restraint. October 22. Bland Holt's Company performed Pettit's new drama, "Taken from life," at the Opera House to a good house last evening. Captain Baker's detachment of constabulary leave by the Glenelg tomorrow for Tauranga, en route for the Botorua Road. It has transpired that Dr. Golds brough found the body of Mrs Hedge 8 in a bad state of preservation, and th 6 most important organs missing. Th c body was re-interred last night. WELLINGTON". October 21. There will be 25 competitors from here for the New Zealand Bine Association meeting. CHBISTCHUECH. October 21. Hempton, commission agent, who absconded after committing numerous forgoriea, was arrested at Springfield thi3 morning. DUjSTEDIN. October 21. The store and dwelling of George Bell, postmaster, at Inch Clutha, has been burned down. The building is insured in the Colonial for £900, but the loss is estimated at £850 over the insurance. BLUFF. October 21. A man named Coggins, late chemist at Oamaru, who has been staying at the Bluff through ill-health, disappeared on Sunday last. All efforts to trace him sinue have failed. He showed signs of a weakened intellect, and it is presumed he has committed suicide, as he threatened to drown himself last week.
