PAPIER MACHE GOODS
COUNTRY DISTRICT RED CROSS GROUP. BEAUTIFUL DOLLS MADE. Articles made by the Papier Mache Group of the Country District Red Cross Society, on view in a window of the W.F.C.A. Ltd., Masterton, in the Arcade, are attracting considerable attention. Until comparatively recently, the group concentrated on the making of hospital and medical accessories in the way of bowls, splints, etc. Lately, however, the group has devoted part of its time to the making of dolls, examples of which, are on view in the window, together with other goods. The dolls, which are beautifully made and dressed, are on sale, the proceeds being in aid of sick and wounded service men overseas. Two dolls have been given by the group for the entertainment of children in the Masterton Hospital. A vast amount of work is involved in the making of papier mache goods and the members of the group devote three sessions a week to their task. The results achieved speak volumes for the industry, and public spirit of those responsible for the making of these goods. The winners of the competitions for dolls held by the Country Districts’ Red Cross Papier Mache Group are:— “Evelyn.” Keith Ca'iherall; “Peg,” T. Simpson, Solway; “Christina,” T. Bell, Worksop Road; “Colleen,” Mrs E. Bagshaw, 2 Cornwall Place; “Annabell,” Dorothy Wallis, 72 Lincoln Road. The proceeds are in aid of comforts for the sick and wounded overseas.
