No Publication Tomorrow. The “Wairarapa Times-Age” will not be published tomorrow, Christmas Day, nor on New Year's Day. There will be no other break in publication. Earthquake Rebuilding Campaign. On Christmas Day all Communicants of the Church of England join in Holy Communion. Opportunity has been taken to make this day in the Masterton Parish one of special effort in connection with the earthquake rebuilding campaign. The offerings at all services will be given to the Parish Rebuilding Fund. High Price for Green Peas. A leap in the price of green peas caused surprise at the Allen Street markets, Wellington, yesterday. On Wednesday fresh green peas sold wholesale at from 3d to 4d per lb., but because of limited supplies coming to hand yesterday morning prices ranged from lOd to Is 2d per lb. Within an hour or two the retail price for the best Sorts had risen to Is 8d per lb. Auckland Gas Service. In connection with the Auckland gas crisis, it was announced by the gas company yesterday that gas would be turned into the mains for cooking purposes at five o’clock in the afternoon, and pressure would be maintained till 8 p.m. After that there would be little pressure till seven o’clock this morning, when gas would still only be available for cooking purposes till further notice by the company. Boys’ Camp. Fifty Y.M.C.A. boys will be going to camp at Castlepoint on January 5. An appeal is made to supporters to ensure that the boys have the best time possible. Donations of food, especially potatoes, carrots, parsnips and 'green vegetables and fresh fruit would be welcome. The cost per boy is 2s per day, hence the need for outside support, as many of the boys would not otherwise have a holiday.

Y.M.C.A. Activities.

The final activities of the Y.M.C.A. year included a games day in the Park on Wednesday. In the morning rounders for both boys and girls were enjoyed. After lunch in the beautiful Park area all indulged in cricket and swimming. Last night a final social evening was held with games and fun topped off with supper. Cheers were given for Mrs A. Barnes for her assistance. The programme was in the hands of the general secretary, Mr L. IVI. Johansen.

Ministry of Supply Inquiry. Certain matters relating to the Ministry of Supply are the subject of investigation at an inquiry being conducted by direction of the Public Service Commissioner, who will report to the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, on the outcome. No particulars are available concerning the scope oi’ order of reference of the inquiry, but it is understood to concern matters relating to the issue of import licenses, the subject of which has recently given rise to many rumours in Wellington and farther afield.

Licensing Recount.

Application was made yesterday to the ..magistrate by six electors of Invercargill in conformity with the Licensing Act for a recount of votes in the local option poll held there on September 25, on the ground that the count of votes in the issue was incorrect. A deposit of £lO accompanied the application, which has been lodged within the statutory period of seven days. The Act states that the magistrate shall as soon as practicable after receiving the application and deposit, cause a recount to be made and give at least two days’ public notice of the time and place of the recount.
