MASTERTON FIRE BOARD

■ BUSINESS AT QUARTERLY MEETING. PLANS FOR NEW STATION APPROVED. A meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held last night. Mr W. Kemp presided and there were also present: Messrs F. H. Lambourne, H. Clay, K. Mason and D. B. Curry (secretary) . A demand for rates on the section at the foot of Essex Street was received from the Masterton Borough Council. The board agreed that it could not recognise responsibility for rates anddecided to advise the council accordingly. In his report, the Superintendent of the Brigade, Mr N. Bruce, asked that a station officer be appointed. It was indicated that an auxiliary fireman would be appointed. Final plans for a new fire station to be erected at the corner of Essex and Chapel streets were approved. The building is estimated to cost £25,000. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements regarding a loan and to call tenders for the job. An interchange of seasonal greetings concluded the meeting.
