PARENTS’ DAY
MASTERTON CENTRAL SCHOOL
WORK ON DISPLAY.
SPORTS GATHERING HELD.
Yesterday Parents’ Day was held at the Masterton Central School. All the rooms were set out with displays of the children’s work in various school subjects, including craftwork and drawing. The drawing called for special commendation, especially in the upper classes, where the standard was remarkably high and had to be seen to be believed.
The classes held a sports gathering in the. recreation ground of the school while Father Christmas visited the primers in the assembly hall where about 130 of them were given a toy each and regaled with ice cream. There was a good attendance of parents, who thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the day’s activities. Many complimentary remarks were made about the quality of the children’s work.
On Tuesday evening the pupils of Form 2 held a social evening, the final for the year. A number of last year’s pupils were also present and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The programme consisted of dancing and games in which all, including the teachers, took part freely. During the evening the Headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington, told Form 2 pupils that the school was sorry to lose such a fine form. He congratulated them all on the good work they had done din ing the year. He was sure that they jvere a little sorry to be leaving and he asked them to always keep up their interest in their fine old school. He wished thfm all good fortune in their new spheres wherever they might be and asked them to give their best, always following out the grand old saying: “Do to others as you would that they should do to you.” Thus they would make fine citizens and get happiness in their future lives. An excellent supper was supplied by the parents who deserved great credit and thanks. The music for the dancing and games was supplied gratis by Mr Thorne and sons, and was much enjoyed and deeply appreciated. During the week Form 2 girls raised • a goodly sum of money and have provided presents for the children in hospital.
A special end of the year effort in aid of Health Camp funds resulted in a collection among the children of £B.
