TOWN AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL PROPOSED CREMATORIUM. * FURTHER ACTION TAKEN. The. monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in Masterton last night. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presided, and there were also present: Councillors W. White, A. D. Low, W. H. Judd, W. Kemp, G. D. Wilson, R. Russell, H. E. Gardner, A. T. Jackson, G. W. Morice, N. Ninnes and C. E. Grey. The Y.M.C.A. was granted permission to use the Park Oval on Tuesday, December 21. . The Sedgley Home boys were granted the free use of the baths. The Salvation Army was refused permission to have .a “no-parking” stand defined in Queen Street outside the Bank of Australasia. R. Berney was granted permission to have a one vehicle horse express stand in Church Street. It was decided to take legal proceedings regarding unpaid earthquake repair accounts.
A resolution was passed that the Board of Health issue a requisition calling upon the council to establish a crematorium. It was decided to ask the Minister of Health to facilitate, approval of the suggested site and that plans and specifications would be submitted at a later date.
The Sanitary Inspector, Mr T. A. Russell, reported that the Railways Department was not disposing of cattle truck cleanings to his satisfaction and said he had issued a warning.
The inspector was given authority to take action if necessary.
Mr T. Hutchins was appointed baths custodian.
The meeting closed with an interchange of seasonal greetings.
