SOLWAY COLLEGE
CONCERT LAST EVENING STORY OF THE NATIVITY. A WONDERFUL PRODUCTION. A most enjoyable concert was presented at Solway College last night, before a large and appreciative audience. The first half of the programme comprised solo items, including vocal, piano and violin numbers, and contributions by the percussion band, all of which were heartily applauded for their excellence. The second half of the programme was devoted to the story of the Nativity, in which the stage represented a chancel and altar. The girls taking part were members of the choir, dressed in white. They sang a number of hymns and carols, many from “The Messiah,” and finished with the Hallelujah chorus. Several part songs were beautifully sung by the Aeolian sextet. Outstanding among the solo work was that of Mooreen Franklin, contralto, and Nancy Fordyce, soprano. The production as a whole was a wonderful one, in which the right atmosphere for the scene was created. Earlier end-of-year functions include a drill and dancing display, a mannequin display, and gymnastic work. This proved most entertaining and instructive, and afternoon tea was served on the lawn.
Oscar Wilde’s play, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” was effectively presented by the prefects in a performance which was greatly appreciated by a! large attendance of spectators.
