MARTINBOROUGH

BOROUGH COUNCIL FINAL MEETING OF YEAR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The final meeting of the year of the Martinborough Borough Council was held on Monday night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr C. R. Holmes), Councillors C. M. Ross, W. J. Blissett, C. E. White, T. A. Hamilton. J. Mills. G. L. Sievers, W. H. Corfield and H. Parsons. Leave of absence was granted to F. Gray (deputy mayor). Mr H. Hardinge applied for a water, connection to his house. The request was granted. The Featherston County Council wrote stating that it was prepared to pay 50 per cent of the repairs to the pound. The Pain Estate forwarded a donation of £lO towards repairs to the footpath in front of Pain’s building. A letter was received from the Martinborough Swimming Club asking the council to have the children’s paddling pool fenced, and to erect a notice prohibiting the presence of dogs in the baths. It was resolved that the requests be acceded to. The overseer reported that the baths had been cleaned three times during the month. The ranger reported having impounded one heifer during the month. The overseer was granted his annual leave from December 27 to January 15. The Clerk was granted his annual leave from January 5 to January 19.

The Mayor thanked the councillors for their co-operation during the year, and wished them, as well as the staff, the compliments of the season. The Mayor also thanked the various patriotic bodies for their splendid cooperation during the year. . Councillor Parsons responded on behalf of the councillors, and wished Mr and Mrs Holmes an enjoyable Christmas and a brighter and happier New Year. It was resolved that the Clerk write to Mr F. H. Ewan asking if he would be prepared to undertake the drafting and designing of plans for the repairs of the Town Hall,
