NEW BOWLING PAVILION
OFFICIAL OPENING.
GATHERING AT MASTERTON PARK. A most successful social gathering was held by the Masterton Park Bowling Club in the new pavilion on Saturday to mark the official opening of the building. Included in the large attendance of members and their wives were Mr and Mrs H. Gardner, Mr Knowles, Mr Geo. Hayne, centre president, Mr F. Price, secretary of the Masterton Club, and Mr B. Braggins, who had given loyal support to the working bees during the construction work. The time was devoted to progressive cribbage and 500, and a very enjoyable time was spent. The winners of the cribbage were Mr W. Edwards and Mrs Carswell, and of the 500 Mrs W. Edwards and Mr A. White.
Prior to the serving of supper, Mr F. Price gave a very entertaining halfhour at the blackboard, caricaturing many of the bowlers and their characteristic attitudes on the green, as well as demonstrating some very clever two-hahded sketches, which drew forth well merited applause. The president thanked Mr Price for his entertainment and all those who had assisted in making the gathering so enjoyable. Cheers were accorded Mesdames C. Andrews, W. Saunders, E. McCord and H. M. Smith, who were responsible for the supper arrangements. On behalf of the Wairarapa Centre, Mr Hayne congratulated the club upon the progress it was making, and in humorous vein alluded to the waywardness of husbands during the bowling season.
