DASTARDLY ASSAULT

WOMAN ATTACKED WHILE ASLEEP STRUCK WITH A BOTTLE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. December 10. Miss Eileen Mary Taylor, a young woman who is employed as a tram conductor and resides at 56 Eglinton Road, was the victim 'of what the police described as a "dastardly assault without apparent motive” at her home at about ’3.45 p.m. yesterday. Miss Taylor was resting on a bed when she was struck on the head with a bottle. She was alone in the house when she lay down, and was bleeding profusely from a cut at the back of the head when she regained consciousness. The lower portion of a broken beer bottle was found near the pillow. The injured woman did not see or hear anyone as she had fallen asleep.
