BREAKUP CEREMONY PRESENTATION OF PRIZES ADDRESS BY DR M. McRAE There was a large attendance of parents and friends at Hadlow School, Masterton, yesterday afternoon when the annual break-up; ceremony was held. The prizes were presented by Dr Murdo Mcßae. The principal, Mr A. W. Don, surveyed the year’s activities. Extensions had been made to the buildings and the roll number next year would be such that more accommodation would be needed. Old boys of the school were well scattered in branches of the forces. Mr Don referred to the shortage of staff and said that both the professional and domestic staffs had carried out their work splendidly in face of difficulty. . • The school choir sang two hymns. Dr Mcßae urged the boys.-to m.ake courage their watchword. He presented the prizes as follows: Wilder Cup: D. B. Findlay. Dux of School: P. B. Jury. Squad Cup: B Squad, Sergt. R. .McMaster, Cpl. R. T. Poulton.
Form prizes: Form 111, public speaking, D. B. Findlay; literature, R. T. Poulton; scripture, D. B. Findlay and B. E. Maunsell; general knowledge, P. L. Jenkins.
School leaving certificates: P. B. Jury, R. J. McMaster, D. B. Findlay. First in form: Form 2a, P. J. Lawson; Form 2b, D. M. K. Jones; Form 2c, A. Cameron; Form la, D. Hopkins; Form lb. H. Little.
Swimming: Senior champion (Hugh Morrison Cup): P. B. Jury; junior champion, R. M. Holmes. Boxing: Most scientific boxer (Earle Riddiford Cup): R. McMaster; middleweight, R. McMaster; lightweight, D. Findlay; featherweight, A. Colquhoun.
