THREE MONTHS’ GAOL

OLD OFFENDER SENTENCED. In the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr L. J. Taylor, J.P., Cecilia Olds, aged 58 years, of Wellington, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on a charge of drunkenness. Senior Sergeant C. Murphy said that Olds was arrested in Lincoln Road, Masterton, last night. She had a bad record. Her 54 previous convictions embraced charges of theft, prostitution, mischief, vagrancy and drunkenness. Olds pleaded guilty and said she wanted a chance for her sick husband’s sake. “It is a pretty formidable list,” observed Mr Taylor. “I suppose you have been begging and praying for another chance for a very long time,” he added in sentencing Olds to gaol for three months.
