Kennel Club Show.

The Wairarapa Kennel Club will hold a ribbon parade at the Masterton Park tomorrow afternoon. A pets’ class will be held for which no pedigree is required. College Break-up Ceremony. The Wairarapa College break-up ceremony will take place at the assembly hall at 8 o’clock tonight. Mr H. O’Leary, K.C., will give an address and will present the prizes. Borough Balance Sheet, A special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening to consider the balance sheet and statement of accounts for the year ending March 31, 1943. The balance sheet was returned from the Controller and Au-ditor-General without any tags. Kindergarten Association. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Free Kindergarten Association, Mrs C. J. Williams presided over a good attendance of members. Arrangements were made for the annual birthday party to be held at the residence of Mrs Jacobsen, 23 Masters Crescent, on Wednesday. It was reported that Mrs Welch, Mt. Bruce, was the winner of the sponge cake competition held in connection with the recent shop day. Mrs Wilson gave a very interesting talk on her recent visit. to the Nursery School in Wellington. The serving of, afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close. No Unfair Competition.

An assurance that there would be no unfaii’ competition between army trucks used for harvesting and the country’s regular carriers was given yesterday by the Minister of Transport; Mr O’Brien. He said that arrangements had been made with the army authorities that army vehicles would not be made available for use on farms or for carting produce to a railway station, store or ship except where the approval of the appropriate transport licensing authority had been obtained and where ordinary carriers were not available. “It was never intended,” added the Minister, “that army trucks should do work which could be done by the regular carriers.”
