PARENTS’ DAY
MASTERTON WEST SCHOOL WORK ON DISPLAY. SINGING BY THE CHILDREN. Parents’ Day was observed at the Masterton West School yesterday. In the afternoon the school was thrown open to parents and others interested, >to allow them to inspect the work done by the pupils during the year. In every class-room, arranged on the desks and on the walls, were many and varied examples of school work, carried out by the scholars in Standards I to VI. Handcraft work figured prominently in the display and gave parents an impressive indication of the useful scope of school activities. Many well-finished and beautifully made blouses, aprons and knitted garments caught the eye and then there was a wealth of toys of all shapes and sizes. Some of the drawings and colour pictures were of a high standard and the written work demonstrated what had been achieved during the year. There was a large attendance of parents, especially mothers, at the afternoon gathering, at which the headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell, expressed his pleasure at having the parents present to view the school’s work and to discuss matters with the teachers. He thanked the Parents’ Association for having installed a radio at the school. It had been very helpful in carryingon the school’s work.
All the children of the standard classes contributed songs learnt during the year. Each standard gave an item and all the standards combined (also gave several numbers. A produce stall, conducted by a Junior Red Cross Circle, raised £lO for the Ngarimu Scholarship Fund. The school was again open in the early evening to allow the fathers to inspect the display. Next Tuesday, the infant classes will have their own end-of-ycar gathering.
