PERSONAL
The death occurred at Palmerston North yesterday of Mr James Alfred Bayliss, formerly of Pahiatua and Ballance, at the age of 71 years. Gunner A. S. Wilton, formerly of West Bush Road, Masterton, who has been invalided from the Pacific area, is staying with relatives in Masterton. Notice of transfer has been received by Major Victor J. Dick, J.P., manager of the Cecilia Whatman Children’s Home, Masterton. He will take up his duties as manager of the Christchurch People’s Palace on January 13, 1944. Major Dick will be succeeded by Brigadier A. Hildreth, of the Wellington People’s Palace. At the annual meeting of the Mana-watu-Wairarapa Drapers’, Clothiers’ and Boot Retailers’ Association, held at Palmerston North, the following officers were elected:—President, Mr W. L. MacPherson; vice-presidents, Messrs K. W. Garner, J. H. Cunningham (Masterton), W. M. Davie (Levin); executive. Messrs H. L. Cunninghame, W. M. Sexton. M. Millar, A. Allan and Miss Speechley.
