CRIPPLED CHILDREN
EXAMINATION BY TRAVELLING CLINIC VISIT TO THE WAIRARAPA A clinic for the examination of crippled children was conducted in the Wairarapa yesterday by Dr Walter Robertson, orthopaedic specialist, Wellington Hospital. Dr Robertson was accompanied by Sir Charles Norwood, a Nuffield Fund trustee, and Lady Norwood, and by Mr C..Meachen, secretary of the New Zealand Crippled Children's Society. At the Greytown Hospital yesterday the clinic examined 26 crippled children from the South Wairarapa and East Coast areas. One child, who had to leave its home on the coast the night before, was held up last night for two hours by a swollen river. Yesterday afternoon, another 26 children were examined at the Masterton Hospital and treatment was recommended, in most cases after consultations with the doctors in charge of the patients. The procedure adopted ensured the best possible specialist treatment in cases where that was considered necessary. The clinic proceeded to the Pahiatua Hospital this morning, where a further 16 cases were examined, before going on to Napier to carry out similar work there. Yesterday afternoon Sir Charles and Lady Norwood and Mr Meachen met members of the executive at the residence of the chairman, Mr E. M. Hodder, of the Wairarapa Crippled Children’s Society, when an informal discussion took place on the work of the society. Sir Charles and Lady Norwood returned to Wellington late yesterday afternoon.
