The Japanese have captured Changteh after a 15 days’ siege, in which both the Chinese and the Japanese- suffered heavy losses, says a Chinese communique. About 300 Chinese of the 57th Division, including General Ya Chengwan, its commander, survived. They fought until their ammunition was exhausted. The Japanese losses are estimated at 10,200 killed and wounded. Fighting -continues in the suburbs of Linli, north of Changteh and also in the Hupeh and Hunan areas. The Chinese have surrounded the Japaneseheld Sinyang, in Southern Hunan.
