WAIKATO MEETING DISTRICT STAKE RECORD (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, December 7. Stakes totalling £4700, a record distribution for a one-day meeting by a provincial club, have been decided on by the Waikato Racing Club for its February meeting at Te Rapa, this being an increase of £1350 on last year. A feature of the programme will be the Storey Memorial Handicap (1| miles), which will carry a stake of £1250, compared with £705 last season. No race on the programme will be worth less than £4OO. It has also been decided to obviate division races, and in instances where the number of acceptors exceed the safety limit, the field will be balloted down to that number. TURF TOPICS Royal Lancer is to be given a spell,' and is being sent home to his owner’s farm at Limehills this week. F. W. Ellis had the bandages off his injured leg for a short time this week, but there still is a noticeable swelling and all signs point to the ligament having been strained. Conditions were perfect yesterday when Hastings horses engaged at Woodville had their semi-final gallops. The best times were recorded by Note Raid, Lord Reay, Queen’s Charm, Theatre, Skyhawk and Lastik. Over three furlongs the best times were credited to Campanella, who recorded 38.?. Others included Lowry Bay, 39; and Royal Heir, 40. The juveniles Laurium (four’ lengths ahead) and Sunny Rosa registered 511 for half a mile. Lambourn and Vin d'Honneur, both backward, took 56 for the same distance. Skyhawk and Lastik, if allowed, would have put up good figures for once round. Taking 62k for the first five, they were eas#d to complete a round in 1.44.1. Epping. Greenfeast and Glenfalloch covered the same distance in 1.46, but it was a working gallop only. Ozel, alone, did a round in 1.434.
