CRIPPLED CHILDREN

PARTY AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL SUCCESS IN HANDCRAFT CONTEST. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. A haony narty was held yesterday afternoon at the Children’s Ward of the Masterton Hospital in honour of the children who had exhibited and gained prizes at the Wanganui Crippled Children’s Society’s competitions, for handW Mrs H. E. Pither, on behalf of the executive of the Masterton Crippled Children’s Society congratulated the children, especially the prize winners, on their efforts, and the high standard of work shown. Twenty-two prizes were gained out of thirty-four entries, and these are at present being displayed in Messrs Hugo and Shearer’s windows. Mrs Pither expressed appreciations to Mrs Rawlins, their teacher, and mentioned the hearty co-operation of Dr. T. L. Parr; the matron, Miss Grant; Sister Cooper, and all sisters and nurses who showed such kindly interest in the training and wellbeing of these children. Mr Robbie, the new Principal of Lansdowne School, was welcomed and introduced to the gathering. In reply, Mr Robbie said how pleased he was to meet everyone, especially the children who had done such admirable work. Floral tributes were presented to the Matron. Sister Cooper and Mrs Rawlins. Afternoon tea and ice cream, donated by the Crippled Children’s Society, were served by the nurses and much enjoyed by all. _ _ # Songs were given by Miss Eva Nicora and a recitation by Robert Baird, and choruses by the children were heartily applauded. Sister Cooper thanked Mrs Kilgour for her kindness and interest in the children, and for arranging such a happy party.

Dr. Parr, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, and Sister Robinson attended the function. The Matron, Miss Grant .presented prizes to John Nunn, Dawn Millar, William Ellers, Betty Kjar, Nola Clarke, N. Jamieson, Joyce Pavitt, Lena Garrett, Audrey Elliott, J. Woodehouse, Tara Te Whaiti, Terry Lambess, Eva Nicora and Margaret Ireland.
