SOUTH FEATHERSTON
EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE HELD BY WAR SERVICE COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The War Service Committee's fortnightly euchre party and dance held in the South Featherston Hall was well attended. Mir T. Udy’s Orchestra provided the music. A modern waltz competition was won by Mr Lloyd Mclntosh and Miss Parker. The Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss E. Davis and Phil Cross and Miss Elaine McGarvie and partner. The card winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Lowell, 1; Mrs Fairbrother, 2. Men: Mr Nelson Fairbrother, 1; Pte. Campbell, 2. On behalf of the War Service Committee, Mr Wilton presented Pte. W. Hocquard with a small gift and wished him the best of luck. Pte. Hocquard suitably replied. Supper was served by a ladies’ committee. j
CALVES AND LAMBS SCHOOL COMPETITIONS. The judging of the South Featherston School children's calves and lambs took place on Saturday. Seventeen calves and eleven lambs were paraded before the judge, Mr D. C. Stuart, of Masterton, who complimented the children on their entries and gave a short demonstration on the points of the champion calf and lamb. Mr Stuart presented to the school a challenge cup and miniature for the champion calf of all breeds which was won by Dorothy Dittmer with a young Jersey calf, showing, Mr Stuart said, remarkable promise. A miniature cup presented by Mrs A. Gain, was won by John Robertson with a Romney lamb. Jersey, type (seniors): Victor Ahipene, 1; Daphne Anderson, 2; George Sorenson, 3. Handling (seniors): Paddy Rendle, 1; Marie Burt, 2; Raymond Snell, 3; consolation prize, Trevor Snell. Jersey class, type (juniors): Dorothy Dittmer, 1 and champion;, Aileen Anderson, 2; Ray Dittmer, 3. Handling (juniors): Maru Ahipene, 1; lan Dittmer, 2; Bruce Mclvor, 3. Lambs, shortwool, weight and condition: Mervyn Gain. 1; Ray Jepsen, 2; Aileen Anderson, 3. Handling: Barbara Sorenson, 1; Graeme Robertson. 2; Melva Lewis, 3. Infant class, weight and condition: John Robertson, 1 and ch.; Peter Robertson, 2; Anne Willis, 3. Handling (infants): Beverly Morgan, 1; Maureen Snell, 2; Anne Willis, 3.
A special prize donated by Mr D. Robertson for the heaviest lamb, was won by Mervyn Gain. Competitions were won as follows: — Cake, donated by Mrs Willis, Mrs Chivers; potatoes, donated by Mr Robertson, Mr Knapp; shopping bag, donated by Mrs Sorensen. Miss Gregor. Greytown; box of handkerchiefs, given t»y Mervyn Gain, Mr Mahupuka. 'A shop day was held in conjunction with the judging and realised £2B. Afternoon tea was served by a ladies’ committee. Personal items. Mrs Ashworth has returned to Hastwells after having spent a few days with her daughter, Mrs Robertson. Mrs Hocquard, South Featherston, was a weekend visitor to Feilding. Mr A. Blain, Wellington, spent the weekend in South Featherston.
