Y.M.C.A.
CAMPAIGN FOR FUNDS EXTENSION OF YOUTH WORK DEVELOPMENT OF CITIZENSHIP. “The Young Men’s Christian Association is a publicly-owned youth centre,” says a joint statement issued by the president and secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. in furtherance of the forthcoming campaign for funds. “Beneath all the changes of modern life and war,” the statement proceeds, “is restless, growing, changing and enthusiastic youth moving on to the control of the nation. This is a high destiny for which youth must be educated and fitted in every way that will develop personality and ability to render the highest service to the nation. The major task of the Y.M.C.A. is to assist in developing, within the limits of its opportunities, the type of youth who will exemplify the best aspects of ser--1 viceable citizenship. Your co-operation will broaden the field of our opportunities. The directors freely give of their time in arranging the affairs of the Association. They cannot do this without finance. That finance must come from you and me. In a normal year expenditure is approximately £Boo,and with our present youth programme this will increase. “Our aim of £l5OO is based on the immediate need to: “(1) Carry on the normal activities of the Y.M.C.A. “(2) Develop and extend our work among the youth of Masterton and surrounding districts. “(3) Replace' damaged equipment] through war use, renovate building and install necessary improvements to gymnasium and sports equipment. “(4) Extend gymnasium to meet any demands of our Youth Department, and supply a pressing need of the community. “(5) Establish a permanent Youth Camp on a site suitable for use at various periods of the year.”
