MARTINBOROUGH
SWIMMING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS ' (“Times- Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Martinborough Swimming Club was held on Thursday. The president reviewed last season’s activities and made special reference to the death of the late president, Mr C. Skill, and the loss the club had sustained thereby. The statement of accounts showed the club to be in a satisfactory position. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. Wilton; captain, Mr F. Duffy; secretary, Miss P. Duffy; ladies’ captain, Mrs Chapman. Merchant Navy Mrs Frank Gray, deputy mayoress, presided over a well attended and representative meeting, at which an address was given by Padre Lea on the work of the Merchant Navy. It was decided to appeal for funds for comforts and for the purchasing of a home in Wellington for the men of the Merchant Navy. The following officers were elected:—President, MrS Roy Burch; secretary, Mrs Boyd; treasurer, Mrs Taylor; general committee, those present with power to add. Girl Guides’ Penny Party A most successful “penny party” was held at the Parish Hall on Friday. Many games were indulged in by a large party of Guides and their parents and friends. The sum of £l3 13s was obtained which will be devoted to the Baden Powell Memorial Fund. . The District Commissioner, Mrs J. C. Bidwill, was present and presented prizes and addressed the gathering.
