GOLDEN WEDDING
MR AND MRS A. R. HORNBLOW The golden wedding of Mr and Mrs A. R. Hornblow, Wellington, and formerly of Masterton and Greytown, was celebrated by a gathering at their residence recently, at which, in addition to all the members of their family, near relatives and friends from the Wairarapa, Auckland, and Hastings, were present to offer congratulations. Both New Zealand-born, they were married in Greytown, Wairarapa, by the Rev S. J. Gibson, on November 9, 1893, the bride being a daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Wilkie, Greytown, and formerly of Wellington. The parents of the bride and bridegroom arrived in the early pioneering days, the bride’s father landing here in 1841 and the bridegrooms parents some years later. Mr and Mrs A. R. Hornblow spent the early part of their married life in their home town, and have resided in Wellington for the past 45 years.
Among those present were: Mesdames J. Willis and Gardiner, Pahiatua, Mr and Mrs Arthur Haig, Greytown, Mrs Woodmore (who on Thursday celebrated her 91st birthday), Mr and Mrs IT. J. M. Barley, Mrs and the Misses Pasche, Mr and Mrs B. Brown, Mr and Mrs W. H. Saunders (Masterton) and Messrs T. Redman, Auckland, and E. Saywell, Hastings.
The main toast of the occasion was proposed by Mr W. H. Saunders (son-in-law), Masterton, and the Wedding March was played by Miss Thelma Saunders (a grand-daughter). The many messages included one from the Prime Minister, and one on behalf of the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland.
