EXCELLENT CONCERT
ST. MATTHEW'S SUNDAY SCHOOL. AN APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE. There was a large and appreciative audience at the annual St. Matthew’s Sunday School concert, held in Masterton last night. The kindly action of the trustees of the Methodist Church in making its hall available free of charge was greatly appreciated. The programme was a delightfully varied one and reflected the greatest credit on the teachers. The children showed that the careful training they had received had been put to good account. Mr S. F. Taylor and the teachers were responsible.The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich congratulated all concerned on the splendid achievement. The following is the programme:— “God Defend New Zealand’’; overture ,Mr J. Grey’s orchestra; A. A. Mills’s verses, Miss Thomas’s pupils; soldiers’ dance, Helen and Janet Viles; musical monologue, Helen and Elaine Wong; recitation, Rita Fitzwater; play, Mrs Chapman's pupils; piano duet, Owen and Brian Henson; vocal duet, Noeline Spackman and Beverley Downes; recitation, Joan Pawson; piano duet, Fay and Jean Rawlins; vocal item, girls class 3; English folk songs, boys under Mr Miller Hope; violin solo, Ron Taylor; noughts and crosses, class 5; song, Leslie Blick; recitation, Pat Cockburn; piano duet, Eleanor Bennett and Jocelyn Heath; recitation, Ngaire Harman; choruses, Sedgley; vocal item, Brian Fagan, John Renner, Graham Jones; play, “Shoot,” boys; vocal item, girls ’class 3; “There’ll Always Be An England” and “National Anthem.”
