Y.M.C.A.
FINANCE CAMPAIGN WORKING COMMITTEE SET UP EXTENSION OF GYMNASIUM A special meeting of the Y.M.CA. directors was held in the Board Room of the Y.M.C.A. last night to discuss the arrangements for a finance campaign which is to be held in the first week of December. Mr J. A. Kennedy, the president, was in the chair, those also present being Mesdames Marchbanks and Corskie and Messrs Sutherland, Hodder and the general secretary, Mr L. M. Johansen. A campaign executive was appointed and five working committees. The Ladies’ Auxiliary was invited to control the street appeal. It was stated that, owing to the constant use of the building for troop purposes, there were now renovations needed on a large scale, .as well as repairs to equipment and extensions to the gymnasium. The gymnasium addition was a most important alteration which must be carried out immediately if the active youth programme adopted was to be sincerely operated. The activities must be extended, thereby giving as many young people as possible the opportunity of sharing in the all round development to be gained from this programme. The Y.M.C.A. was a community asset and must have the support of the community. The objective of the campaign was £l5OO, £lOOO being required for the normal activities of the Y.M.C.A. and £5OO towards the immediate alteration and extension to the gymnasium. Several offers of assistance from prominent men in the town were reported and a special meeting of the campaign executive is called for this afternoon at 4.30 o’clock. YOUTH WEEK CAMPAIGN The thanks of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. are extended to youth organisations and all who assisted in making the Youth Week campaign the success it was.
