WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL TODAY’S. MEETING AT CARTERTON GUMBOOTS REQUIRED FOR RIVER WORK. (“Times-Age” Special.) Councillor A. E. Reid presided over the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council held at Carterton today. There were also present: Councillors M. J. McGregor, F. Court, L. S. Gallon, R. 0. Rayner, E. W‘. Allen; A. McGregor and C. Cameron. The treasurer’s report showed a credit balance at the bank of £11,334 Ils lid. The Carrington and 'Taratahi water race overseer’s reports were adopted. It was resolved that the clerk write to the Minister of Supply for a supply of gum-boots. Work is to be carried out in the river to enable a good flow of water through to the races, particularly that to the meat works. Gumboots are urgently required to enable this work to be carried out, as men cannot be- expected to work without them in water in the river at this time of the year. It was decided that the county office close from December 24 till January 18. Holidays for the outside staff will be observed at Christmas and New Year for a fortnight. If any extraordinary work were required, the overseer is to have power to call on the men.
Miss O. W. Wolters requested that a drain on Richmond Road be kept open to allow heavy rain and surface water to be carried away freely, and thus obviate the flooding of her property and other property in the vicinity. The matter was left to the chairman and Councillor Court to deal with.
