Reuter quotes the newspaper “Der Fuehrer Karlsruhe” as stating that Gauleiter Robert Wagner, chief of the civil administration in occupied AlsaceLorraine, told a meeting that Germany had been forced to abandon the U-boat warfare almost completely because the enemy had found defensive weapons which promised success. This trouble, however, had now been overcome and the U-boats were again active.
