GREYTOWN

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The League of Mothers’ monthly meeting was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon, when Mrs T. N. Smallwood presided over a large attendance of members. She welcomed Mrs Every, president of the Carterton branch, and several members. Sympathy was extended to Mesdames Knell and Bull, who had suffered bereavement. Mrs Benseman was presented with a small gift in recognition to her services as sick visitor. Mrs Benseman thanked Mrs Smallwood for the gift and her kind remarks. The thought for the month was given by Mrs H. G. Carter. “Little by little the time goes by. Short if you sing through it. Long if you sigh. Sympathy was expressed with Miss Tate, who is at present ill. The choir sang two glees, “The Wind at Night” and “Red Rose, Dead Rose.” The Rev. B. J. Williams, Port Chaplain to Missions to Seamen, Wellington, thanked the Grey town League of Mothers for so generously sending cakes to the Mission once a month. He said that we owe a tremendous lot to the men of the Merchant Navy. The objects of the society were the spiritual and social welfare of the seafaring community of all ranks and creeds. Mr Williams, who had 14 years experience in the work, said that there were all kinds of entertainment for the men. Pictures and dances played a big part. Concerts were organised ny the men themselves as well as games, such as hockey, cricket, footbml and tennis. The scheme for the men o have a short holiday in the country was proving its worth. Members brought along gifts for Mi Williams to take back to the Mission for the men. Mrs Smallwood thanked Mr Williams for having given up his time to come to Greytown and the League. This being the last meeting of me year, Mrs Smallwood wished those present a happy Christmas. The hostesses were Mesdames Maddison Junr., Smart, Matthews and A. Wood.

Bowling Teams The following teams will represent Greytown against Featherston, at Greytown on Saturday:—Brunton, Burden. Dennes, Higginson; Connolly, Reid, Shedden, Carter; A. Thompson, H. R. Feast, Harrington, McLeod; Skeet, 1 Burns, Kiernan, R. Thompson.

TOWN HALL DOUBLE PROGRAMME. Tomorrow night there will be a double feature programme. “Strictly in the Groove,” is an excellent comedy drama starring Leon Errol and Shemp Howard. “Sunset in Wyoming,” is a splendid drama in which the principal roles are taken by Gene Autry and Smily Burnette.
