EKETAHUNA

CROQUET CONTESTS LOCAL PLAYERS SUCCESSFUL, (“Times-Age” Special.). Mesdames W. D. Hart (president), A. S. Carter (secretary), and H. W. Gallagher (club captain), attended the official opening of the Pahiatua Croquet Club yesterday, when a most enjoyable time was spent. The various competitions held were well contested, two being won by the Eketahuna ladies, namely, target (Mrs Carter) and hoops (Mrs Gallagher). A cake competition was also won by Mrs Gallagher. Before leaving Mrs Hart thanked the Pahiatua Club for their hospitality and extended an invitation to the members of the Pahiatua Club to visit the Eketahuna Club during the season. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT NIREAHA. At the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women’s Institute, Mrs Terry welcomed a large attendance of members. r The motto, “.It is looking down that makes one dizzy,” was read. One new member (Mrs R. Daniel) was nominated. Members decided to enter for the Robert Young Cap. Mrs Golder gave a very interesting report on the conference held at Woodville. Mrs Petersen read her speech on the Institute activities which she gave at the conference. It was decided to forward biscuits to 16 service men overseas. Mrs J. B. Drysdale gave a demonstration on tatting. She will give another lesson later on more advanced patterns. The sale of produce realised 15s for the Soldiers’ Parcel Funds. Mesdames Daniel and Drysdale judged the competitions, the results being as follows:— Article made from flour bag: Mrs Terry, 1; Mrs Hansen, 2; Mrs Petersen, 3. Pansy: Mrs Petersen, 1; Mrs JDrysdale, 2 and 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hawkins, 1; Mrs J. Drysdale, 2; Mrs Hansen, 3. Small bloom: Mrs A. Houston, 1; Mrs Hansen, 2; Mrs Terry, 3. Large bloom: Mrs W. Drysdale, 1; Mrs A. Houston, 2 and 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Wilkins and W. Drysdale.

The competitions for the December .meeting will be best shoulder spray to be made at the meeting, and a slice of Christmas cake not iced.
