HOMING PIGEONS

MASTERTON CLUB WEEKEND RACE'FROM OPUA The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race from Opua, an airline distance of 410 miles, over the weekend. A strong southerly wind prevented the birds reaching home on the day and as a result a two-day race was held. The winner received a special prize donated by Mr C. Johnston. The results were as follows: A. Pinkney’s “Faithful” (time, 20 hours; 20 minutes 6 seconds), 1; R. Stewart & Sons. "Scotch Queen” (20hrs 21mins 48secs) 2; N. Gardner’s “Red Arrow”((220 —21 —59). 3; W. Drury’s “Young Bill’((22 4; Grant & Forrester’s “Our Nation” (20 —38 —28), 5; J. Mayes’s “Renown’s Best” (20—40—33), 6. Next week’s race will be from Wellsford, an airline distance of 335 miles.
