AMERICAN MINERS

INSTRUCTED TO RETURN TO WORK. SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT REACHED. (By Telegraph—'Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, November 3. The United Mine Workers’ Association has instructed the striking coal miners to resume work at the earliest possible moment because a satisfactory agreement has been reached with the Fuel Controller, Mr Ickes, which is effective immediately and will continue through the period of Governmental operation of the mines. The agreement grants the miners an increase of 1 dollar 50 cents a day, but cuts the lunch-time from 30 to 15 minutes. The “Herald Tribune’s” Washington correspondent says observers express the opinion that the War Labour Board will not approve the contract and also that the operators will not sign it.
