UNDER HEAVY STRAIN

LOCOMOTIVE MEN IN WAR TIME. ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The annual conference of the New Zealand Locomotive Engineers’, Firemen’s and Cleaners’ Association is at present being held. Mr C. C. Harris is president. War conditions have imposed a heavy strain on locomotive men during the past few years, and on account of the importance of the railway system in the war effort, members have worked at very high pressure, states the organisation. It is realised that the railways must be maintained and operated at the highest point of efficiency and it was stated today that representations would be made to the Government on matters affecting the men to ensure that that standard was maintained.
