MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Baine presided over the monthly meeting of the Mauriceville District Women’s Institute, held on Tuesday at the residence of Mrs Spackman. The noil call, “Uses for stale bread,” brought forth some helpful sugges-. tions. It was reported that twelve pairs of mittens from sox-tops had been forwarded to Wellington. Members were reminded of the book drive for the armed forces. Books for this purpose may be left with Mrs Baine. A donation of £1 towards the soldiers’ parcel fund was received . from Mrs M. Skinear. It was decided that a bring and- buy stall be held in December. The monthly competition resulted as follows:—Best bloom: Mrs Wilson, 1; ( Miss J. Larsen, 2; Mrs Broadbent and Mrs Spackman, equal, 3. Prettiest covered coathanger: Mrs Wilson, 1; Mrs Baine, 2. Afternon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Spackman and Urquhart. The meeting closed with the passing cf a vote of thanks to Mrs Spackman for the use of her home.
