GREYTOWN

TENNIS CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Greytown Tennis Club was held last night. The report and statement of accounts showed the club’s finances to be in a healthy state, the credit balance being £l9 Is 2d. Mr Collier was re-elected as patron, Mr J. Robb as president, and Mrs E. M. Balfour and Mr F. C. Bunny as vicepresidents. The subscriptions were fixed at the same figure as for the previous season. The opening day was arranged for Saturday, November Q, S.M. Court Sitting The monthly sitting of the Magistrates’ Court was held at Greytown yesterday. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided. , A. G. Brice, licensee of the Foresters Arms Hotel was fined £5, with costs 10s, for having supplied liquor to a member of the armed forces, whilst in uniform, for consumption elsewhere. Brice, who was represented by Mr J. F. Thompson, pleaded guilty. Mr Brice said he was absent at the time and the offence had been committed by one of his assistants. Allan Wilson was fined £2, with costs 10s, for having removed liquor from the Foresters Arms Hotel at a time when licensed premises were required to be closed. Wilson was a boarder at the hotel and was going to a party with a jar of beer. He told the Magistrate that he considered he had to take his share when going to a party. F. F. Hawkins, for having drunk beei’ in a restaurant whilst licensed premises were required to be closed, pleaded guilty and stated he was not aware that he was committing an offence. He was fined £2, with costs 10s. In a civil case, H. C. Peterson v A. Flutey, a claim for £6, judgment was given for plaintiff by default. All Nations Fair The members of the All Nations Fair Committee were busy last evening erecting stalls in the Crown Theatre. Each stall represents one of the Allied Nations. The stallholders representing China have made a great show and the Chinese characters displayed on their stall were the work of a well known Wairarapa resident of Chinese descent. Personal Sappers W. Clark and J. Sommerville have arrived in Greytown. Both were members of the Forestry Unit which had been on service in England. TOWN HALL A BRILLIANT COMEDY. No more brilliant comedy has been produced in recent years than “The Black Sheep of Whitehall,” in which Will Hay has the leading role and which will be shown tonight. It is a scream from start to finish. In “The Mayor of 44th Street,” George Murphy portrays the principal character in a thrilling drama.
