Hansell's Dance.
There was a good attendance at a dance held in the Masonic Hall, Masierton, last night by Hansell’s Sports Club. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra and supper was served by a ladies’ committee. Swimming Pool Built by Boys. Built entirely by Standard VI boys of the Epsom Normal School, Auckland, a concrete swimming pool, on which work was started on Thursday afternoon, was almost completed by yesterday afternoon. The baths are prefabricated in type and measure 40 ft by 20ft. 1 Possessed Liquor Still. Charged with having in his custody a still or other apparatus suitable for distilling liquor, a commission agent, Frederick Spencer, aged 45, was sentenced at Auckland yesterday to nine months’ hard labour in gaol. Accused denied the charge. Self Denial Appeal. The Masterton Salvation Army Corps held a highly successful self-denial street appeal yesterday when lasi year’s figure of £26 was increased by £2O. For the whole district this year’s - appeal showed an increase of £ 140 on last year’s return. The Corps extends its thanks to donors and all who assisted in running the appeal. Unusual Charge Against Maori. A Maori who when arrested for drunkenness had a bottle of beer in his possession, was yesterday lined £5 in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, for aiding in the unlawful supply of liquor to a Nalive (himself). It was stated lhal. accused admitted buying the liquor at i’aekakariki, which was a licensing area where Natives could not, buy liquor for ofl’-the-premises consumption. Taken to I’aekakariki, he could not identify the seller.
